What Lincoln's Reading: Pete the Cat
Today Lincoln is in a Pete the Cat mood. We've read all of our Pete the Cat books today (several times), did some Pete the Cat coloring pages, and at this very moment in time he is watching YouTube videos of the books. I actually love that the author, Eric Litwin, narrates Youtube videos of the stories. He reads along and sings the catchy little songs in the books. It makes it really fun for Lincoln to be able to hear someone else (besides mom and dad) read the story and sing the songs, and makes the [already fantastic] stories even more engaging. Lincoln's favorite is the original, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes. I love this one, too. Its a great book for introducing kids to colors and it encourages them to stay positive and make the best of unexpected situations. This was a FAVORITE in my kindergarten and first grade classrooms, too. The kids got so excited when I'd bring out Pete the Cat! They loved to sing along during the song parts and would read aloud all together when we came to the repetitive phrases. Lincoln loves to sing the song each time we come to that part and its so fun to see him engaging in the story like that!
Here are a couple of my favorite Pete the Cat books to read with Lincoln:
- Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes
- Pete The Cat: And His Four Groovy Buttons
- Pete The Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes
If you haven't read Pete the Cat with your kiddos, check them out. They are so fun, incorporate great life-lessons, and will most likely become a favorite in your home. If you have a beginning reader who is ready to read more independently, there are also TONS of Pete the Cat Early Readers (here are some from the My First I Can Read series) that are just fabulous for young readers. And as Pete grows in popularity, I'm noticing that there are now holiday themed Pete the Cat books as well as many, many others. I love it when authors give us more of the things our kids love. If you find yourself with a Pete the Cat addict on your hands, your in luck because there are no shortage of new Pete the Cat books.
You can also get a Pete the Cat stuffed animal like this one, if your child (like mine) loves to use stuffed animals and toys to act out stories. We don't have the stuffed animal yet, but I can't help but think that the stuffed animal paired with a couple of Pete the Cat books would be a lovely Christmas gift! Scholastic even has Pete the Cat on CD if you like to listen in the car.
Let me know if you decide to check out Pete the Cat! I'd love to hear how it goes for you and your little one.
